You ask a spectator when their birthday is. Let's say it's the 8th of September: the 8th of the 9th.
You show a small wallet saying that you have a card with their birthday on it. You flip open the wallet and remove the card. You show that it is printed with a small calendar! OK, just a joke...
What was your birthday again? The 8th of September: the 8th of the 9th, they repeat. You add the 8 and 9 together to get seventeen.
Now, count down to the 17th card. Let's say it's a Jack of Clubs. 'That's your lucky 'Birthday Card', you say'. Turn it over and the back reads 'Happy Birthday' in large letters. Now all the other cards are shown to have perfectly normal backs.
Next, you turn over the calendar to reveal that the face of the calendar card is also a Jack of Clubs!
