The Backstage Elephant Vanish
We've all seen the big illusions of Las Vegas, where they make an elephant disappear...
"Well tonight", you say, you're going to "teach the audience How to Vanish an Elephant !"
You show a tray with a handsome velvet drape. You introduce a wooden board, upon which is a picture of an Elephant. Next you show two more boards which will screen the elephant to allow the 'Vanish' to take place.
You now turn your back to the audience, and perform the effect for an imaginary audience in front of you, while the real audience has a backstage view of how the trick works!
The two boards are placed on the tray. The Elephant board is shown, and dropped between the two wooden screens.
The wooden screens are then removed, and shown on both sides, to show the Elephant really has vanished.
The real audience however, can see EXACTLY how the trick was done.... they see the Elephant drop through a slot in the tray into a harness under the tray!
You now repeat the effect, this time with the real audience to the front.
This time, the Elephant has again vanished...
The audience, of course, figure that the Elephant is behind the drape. You the tray around, and there it is. The audience clearly sees the Elephant hanging behind the drape.
Next, the tray is turned again, drape side again facing audience. You then peel away the drape to show the elephant really has vanished!
Both the drape and tray are freely shown all sides, with no sign of the elephant! GONE!
A great effect that just gets better the longer it runs.
